During the 19th century, parallel lines of tempered steel extended across Southern Africa, reaching as far as the Zambezi River gorge bridge overlooking the thundering smoke of Victoria Falls. The Union Limited and Union Express trains were the standard-bearers of steam-powered opulence in the 1920s, as they ferried passengers from Cape Town Harbour to Kimberley's diamond mines and the goldfields of the Witwatersrand. These trains evolved and in 1946, in its distinctive livery of royal blue, The Blue Train was born from this line and would ride the rails into legend.

Guest Testimonials

All the meals were noteworthy, and the serving personnel were knowledgeable and pleasant.

Collen was the star. He could pick up the mood of people, and he went the extra mile with his team. He is an invaluable asset and made us feel at home from the moment we boarded.

Everything was perfect. The service and meals were excellent! The staff were friendly. It was my first time on The Blue Train - this journey was unbelievable, you will see me again.

Our party included a wheelchair user, and the staff were very supportive and helpful. The butler service was especially good and second to none.
